Confederation Cup: Cameroon Crash Out, Germany Top Group
Germany defeated African champions Cameroon 3-1 in the final Group B game of the 2017 FIFA
Confederations cup in Russia on Sunday, June 25, 2017.
Kerem Demirbay opened the scoring for the World champions in the 48th minute after the game ended goalless at half-time.
Timo Werner netted a brace in the 67th and 82nd minute to seal the victory for the Germans and secure top place finish in Group B table.
The Cameroonians ended the game with 10-men after Ernest Mabouka was sent off in the 64th minute but Vincent Aboubakar scored a consolation goal shortly before Germany’s third goal by Werner.
Elsewhere, Chile were held to a 1-1 draw by Australia in both teams final Group B game.
The Australians needed a win by at least two goals to ensure qualification into the semi-final of the competition but the South American side proved too strong.
James Troisi scored for Australia in the 42nd minute when the Socceroos capitalized on a poor pass from the back by Manchester City goalie Claudio Bravo.
Martin Rodriguez however cancelled out Troisi’s strike in the 68th minute following a defensive mix up against the run of play to confirm Chile’s qualification into the next round.
Both Germany and Chile will join Portugal and Mexico into the semi-final of the 2017 FIFA Confederations cup in Russia.
